- Actually, the subject is slightly misleading since this problem has
- also occured when using my USR sportster. The Courier is just the
- most recent modem I have tried.
-
- My PPP server is a sparcstation running solaris 2.3. The client (my
- machine), is a pentium running solaris 2.4. Both sides are using the
- standard Solaris PPP package. Identical modems on each side. USR
- 28.8 Couriers. I have tried endless init string combinations on
- each side. The general problem is frequent dropped connections. If anyone
- would be able to offer any advise here, I would greatly appreciate it.
- BTW, this problem is independent of phone lines, as I have tested this
- in multiple locations including sitting both machines on the same desk
- and dialing in. Here are the specifics of my strange problem.
-
- I dial in to the PPP server and start the negotiation fine. Everything
- seems ok, but after a few minutes, as data starts to pass, my
- connection drops abruptly. Below is the error message I get in the
- ppp log (on my side) once this happens. The strange thing is, the
- more frequently I invoke PPP sessions, the quicker I get the drops after being
- connected. Meaning, the first time I used this modem to do PPP, the
- connection stayed up for a few hours. Then, a half an hour, then 20
- minutes, then around 5, then around 1. Now, the drop is almost
- instant once connected. Almost as if the PPP server has a mind of
- it's own. As I mentioned, I get this same behavior with a USR
- Sportster. Could this be a problem with my motherboard, or physical
- serial port? Possibly something I need to set on the server side?
- I have similar problems dialing into a terminal server offering PPP.
- (although the error messages are not the same). This is driving me
- nuts. Please e-mail reples to me, and I will post a summary.
